…is a cool little program. It really makes touch ups and batch processing a lot easier. Very nifty.
One completely unrelated thought: women seem to take the social aspect of blogging one step further than men. I say this because I was snooping about and I found a post about contemplating the navel. Now, you’ll notice that there are 34 really heartfelt comments following that post, and they are almost all exclusively female voices. Granted, this blogger knows how to write. She writes very well. But this isn’t the first time I’ve noticed how much women seem to care. They will spend hours reading each others blogs, and these aren’t just quick skims either. These are full on, “I want to know this person” readings–and comments. I’ve never spent as much time reading and commenting as most of the women I know do.
Maybe it’s the way women blog. Maybe men don’t care. Do men care?
I was blowing through some photos while I was working on the dragonfly site, and I happened upon a few that Laura had taken on the 12th of July. As it turns out, Laura unwittingly caught a female dragon carrying her unborn young. Observe:
Another recent innovation separate but not entirely unrelated to the parabolic solar collector developed at MIT is the introduction of a cheaper way to light our homes. According to Dr. Timothy Sands of Purdue University, this new process for manufacturing solid state lighting (LEDs) has the potential to reduce the amount of electricity used for lighting, globally, by 1/3.
I’m just going to put a link to a 4 line article about the conviction of a St. Paul man convicted of rape here. It’s not the content of the article I would like you to focus on–there’s hardly any–it’s the content of the comments following the article that have me all like, WTF? Start on page two, because that’s where the first comment is. Then, look at the five faces smiling at you from the banner. Then, keep reading the comments (they get better).
In fact, while you’re at it, read almost any comment section on any article related to a crime committed by an immigrant or minority on the KARE 11 site and try not to wince.
Hello, my name is Jonathan and I buy domains. I’m here today because I was on Google keywords looking for popular search phrases. I like to work on projects that will bring traffic to a site. I can write, so I’ll write about anything, and I’ve been working on a lot of little side projects mostly because it’s a game. I can play the game. So, I bought these domains: howitbedone.com, ourabortion.com, my-how.com, iHow-to.com. You can add those to the list of roughly 100 domains I’ve purchased in the past 5 years.
The only reason I bought my-how is because the search phrase “my how” gets about 4,000,000 searches every month. The only reason I bought iHow-to is because the search phrase “how to” gets about 101,000,000 searches every month. All I did was compare that to the 823,000 searches per month the search phrase “how to get rid of” gets every month, a figure proffered to me by Google. As it turns out, according to the traffic statistics for How to Get Rid of Things, we get roughly 500,000 of the visitors searching for anything that contains the phrase “how to get rid of” out of that 823,000. I’d say that’s quite an accomplishment.
In other news, I just dropped $1,100 on a new PC. An Antec P-182 case with an Intel Dx48BT2 X48 ATX motherboard and an Intel Core 2 Duo Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66 ghz quad core processor, topped off with 4GB of OCZ Intel Extreme DDR3 memory and a brand new copy of Windows Vista Ultimate SP1. Now I just have to figure out how to work the my-how and iHow angles to be able to afford dropping so much cash on a new computer. It was easy enough to rationalize, considering I’m pumping 600+ RAW formatted files through the photo processing software on an almost daily basis. The increase in productivity should be noticeable. I didn’t realize why people wanted supercomputers for workstations until I started rendering web pages, photographs, video, and music at the same time. Now I’ll have one core for each of those tasks!
The new site is up, sort of. It’s just the splash page for now, but I’m looking for some feedback on the design. Is it too simple? Check it out and let me know.
I get asked this question a lot: why St. Paul instead of Minneapolis? Well, here’s just one reason: Women in St. Paul don’t feel the need to dress like hookers every time they go out.
Those of you who know me best are probably not surprised that I’m already looking at a new camera. The Canon 5D MkII is coming out soon, I can feel it in my loins. No official announcements yet, but there are plenty of rumors. They’re thinking 16 MP, dual Digic III processors, and a whole host of new features. The good news is, I won’t have to buy a kit lens with the new body. I’ll save some $ by using the lenses I already have, unless the new body comes with a brand-spanking new kick ass zoom lens, which the 24-105mm already is. I’m looking for prospective buyers for my current Canon 5D. When the new one comes out, I’ll be buying it without hesitation.
Still working on dragonfly site. Making good progress. Keeping it simple.
Something totally unrelated: The Beltane Fire Festival might be something fun to do in the Spring. I can’t think of anything hotter than bare-chested women playing with fire. No pun intended. J out.
